The current sports season has kicked into high gear with the Houston Astros making history all the way to the World Series. The Rockets are perfecting their rebound game against the 76ers and the Texans just traded Duane Brown to the Seattle Seahawks. And with all of the fall 2017 sports madness, you need the right venue to take it all in.
Yard House is now offering an extended happy hour every Monday from 3 p.m. – 11 p.m., making this sports bar a good place to watch Monday Night Football. And with multiple screens and ample seating throughout the venue, you can catch most Monday night games while enjoying select appetizers and a cold craft beer.
The late night dining destination is offering $1 off domestic pints and well drinks, which pair well with food selections that include the Margherita Pizza, Gardein™ Wings and Boneless Wings, all for $6 each.
Yard House has 130 taps of imported, craft and specialty ales & lagers; and let’s not forget about the Chalkboard Beer Series featuring a rotating selection of five draft beers and five large-format bottle offerings. In the middle of a cold and dark winter, we admittedly want to stay home and hibernate more often than not. Saying that, come the first Sunday in February, you’ll find nearly every American peeling themselves off of their couches and out of their sweatpants in the name of one thing… football!
This year, we’re spending the big day at Yard House at La Plaza in McAllen, Texas. Known as the place “where beer and food lovers unite,” it’s pretty easy to see why we’re rounding up our friends to yell at football players and critique commercials together here above anywhere else. With a massive selection of beers on tap, mouthwatering snacks (including Buffalo Cauliflower with Spicy Tahini, Deviled Eggs, and Chicken Nachos!), and a slew of vegetarian options, there’s truly something for everyone on the menu. Recently, we caught up with Joseph Brower, Yard House’s General Manager, to hear all about their offerings — they’ve even given our readers their recipe for sangria so you can whip up something delicious and impressive in the comfort of your own home. Read on and be sure to visit Yard House the next time you’re in the Lonestar State!
Tell us about Yard House – what is your philosophy and what do you hope first-time visitors experience?
Yard House is known as the modern American gathering place where beer and food lovers unite. With 130+ beers on tap, each Yard House has its own specially curated beer offering, and a selection of taps are reserved for local and regional brewers, as well as small-batch and seasonal selections. With more than 80 locations nationwide, Yard House also boasts 100+ menu items made from scratch daily, 20+ TVs so you don’t miss a single moment of the game, and a classic rock playlist that creates the socially energetic vibe.
What would you recommend for a hungry group to snack on as they watch some football?
Our Poke Nachos are one of our most popular appetizers, featuring marinated raw ahi, avocado, cilantro, serranos, green onions, nori, sesame seeds, sweet soy, sriracha aioli, white truffle sauce and crispy wontons. Guests also love our vast selections of burgers, tacos, pizzas and wings that are perfect for the big game.
What’s your go-to order?
When I’m in the mood for a burger, my favorite is our Kurobuta Pork Burger which is absolutely amazing, and features spicy candied bacon, white American cheese, arugula and blueberry ketchup. Our Seared Ahi Steak Sandwich, which features ahi steak seared rare topped with arugula, swiss, tomato, caramelized onions and peppercorn aioli on grilled rye is a very close second though – it just melts in your mouth!
We notice that you have a ton of vegetarian-friendly options on your menu — can you share your favorite and let us know why your partnership with Gardein is so important?
We pride ourselves in truly having something for everyone at Yard House, including gluten-sensitive, vegan and vegetarian options. Guests can enjoy dishes like our Gardein™ Wings, Gardein™ Orange Chicken, Spicy Beyond Sausage® Pasta, Beyond Burger™ along with a specially-curated Lifestyle Menu with lighter options.
You have so many beers on tap — which do you recommend for someone who prefers a lighter beer? And someone who prefers something with a little more flavor?
I love our House White Ale, House Golden Pilsner or House Honey Blonde, especially if you’re looking for a lighter beer. For those who prefer a little more flavor, try our House IPA or our new 23rd anniversary beer, Noble Pursuit, a tequila-inspired, agave-infused platinum IPA.

What do you have planned for the big day?
Guests who come in during Late Night Happy Hour can enjoy $2 off all draft beer, wine, spirits and cocktails until 11 p.m. and half-off select appetizers and all pizzas until close. We’ll also have the game on throughout the restaurant so guests don’t miss a single play!
Yard House Football Specials
Spill — who’s your money on to win?
Well, I’m a die-hard Seahawks fan, and since they were beat out this year, I have to cheer on our divisional rivals, the 49ers. Great squad this year, they’re gonna take home the trophy!
What’s one easy drink that our readers can whip up to serve the whole family (if they’re not near a Yard House location, of course!).
